How depth of fields can improve your photo

Right choice of depth of field, or (DOF) as the term is in English can lift up a right boring image to be interesting. It also depends on what you shoot when to enhance your image to be a real eye candy. It is good to know that if you have a camera with the small focal length it can be a problem with this technique. This applies mainly simple compact cameras around 3x-4x magnification will not be able to get a special short depth of field.

This short depth of field so that we have a blurred background will therefore primarily be a long zoom lens and SLR. You must at the same time as the lens has a long focal length and use a high aperture to accomplish a focus on the subject and a short depth of field.

This is a good movie from Total Image.

How do we make our photo so depth of field highlight your image?

1st Do you have a simple view may not be necessary with a short depth of field.

2nd Background is disturbing that’s when you’ll try to use a short depth of field so that you can smear out the background and make it less disruptive. Then, lift up the subject.

3rd You may want to focus on a detail in the picture. Then it is also possible to use a short depth of field.

4th For landscape photos would you rather the contrary, using a large depth of field so that as much as possible, perhaps even into infinity is sharp. Here it is useful to use a tripod for it may require slow shutter speeds.

5th A long lens (300mm) has a longer focal length and can thus create a shallow depth of field than a short lens (35mm).

6th I think it is better to control the focus by using a manual focus than using auto focus. This allows control over where you put the focus much more precisely.

In my experience the short depth of field requires much training and that it should be used at the right time. I think it is very powerful, for example, in macro photography.
