Using LED lamps to heighten your photo

March 6th, 2010

tulips photoI was shooting some photo on my wifes new tulips and got the idea to place an LED lamp inside the tulips and let that be the only light. ISO was therefor quite high around 800 so the photo was quite grainy. I edit it with G’Mic and Gimp using Anisotropic Smoothing. You will find it under enhancements. A photo is never as good as its edit so be sure to learn your photo editor wether its Photoshop, Gimp or any other program. Sometimes you can use the automatic features, but be sure not to make a habit.

Photo your food

March 5th, 2010

photo food feelingsWriting a little about photograph the food. I think many are trying to make it a little too advanced. It is difficult to photograph the food if you really want to get it good. I think that it is often smarter to ensure that something happens on your photo, as in the picture, where someone takes food. Keep it simple and not complicate it. With my Canon 50mm: 1.8 lens so I do not always use the flash which makes it a little easier. Flash can make good photo on food, but it requires making sure to use diffuses and reflectors.

Make sure to work with the image and be sure to create an atmosphere. It usually gives a better picture than if you get too technical.

Using an old Lens to create a new photo

February 23rd, 2010

photo spice cinnemonCreating a new picture using an old lens. This is taken with my OM Macro 50mm/3.8 and is a quite useful lens with the E-3. The composition let the eye stuck on the bokeh creating a gradient contrast to the sharpness of the motif. You eye will lead towards the gradient though you want to watch the motif. Thus the sharpness and the blur contrast each other.

I am using Bibble 5 Pro and the lens to lift the bokeh. Using Gimp and layermask to prevent the sharpness of the motif.

The dilemma of the photograph

February 16th, 2010

tree photo compositionWe are crushed between good equipment and thinking in pictures. Being creative as humans and making our photo. Often are our thinking and telling with photos are limited by the technique being the “only” factor affecting the quality of our photo.

Thus thinking of composition and telling with your picture will stand in the background when your thoughts will stand in the background and are overwhelmed by thoughts of ISO, Megapixels, HDR etc. It will make you handicapped.

The technique will take over and worsen your creative side. If you could create your images with the camera in your cellphone instead. You will then not be limited about thinking creative. The art are given a freer medium and are thus not as limited.

We will see apps for iPhone like Chase Jarvis Best Camera. The best camera is therefore not the one that can handle the technique best. It is the one you are always carrying around and not keeping it on a shelf.

Therefore let your telling in photos be freer without being limited of the technique. Train composition and story telling with your cellphone. You will be start thinking in pictures and not setting the technique in the front room.

Less is more on you photo. Think simple.

square snow flowerThinking simple in your photo always make more impression on those watching your pictures. Here i had chosen a diagonal composition on a snowy picture. I have cloned out som other flowers that was disturbing the photo. Its always rewarding thinking minimal when doing pictures. I am also making it in a square format to strengthen the diagonal feeling.

Playing around with Gimp and G’mic to make a good photo

January 16th, 2010

tulpan enhancing photoHere i have played around with my photo editor Gimp and some filters Gmic and Gegl. Sometimes you find your style and its always right to play with old photo. You can find a pearl you overlooked the first time and now your state of mind is different. Try also the photo in black/white or an other coulor.

Here i have played around with Gegls funktion made a C2G and the putting on a vignette on it though just slightly.

Update: Trying also Twtpoll as tool trying to decide which edit is the best. Playing around with Gimp alittle.

Remove photo haze with levels and use selective sharpening

January 14th, 2010

snow sharpening selectiveYou wont to remove haze on your picture and lift it with selective sharpening. Try always to make the most of your pictures using a good photo editing program. A layermask makes it easy to sharpen selective and not sharpen the places that are soft.

Let the places instead stay unsharp and unfocused. You want to emphasize the sharpness and let the soft be more soft. Using a good editor is not cheating also the great masters as Ansel Adams stayed long times in the darkroom. Your darkroom is your photo editor. Learn it as you should other tools. I have used an 200mm/4 OM objektiv so you shoul probably not be able to find out the exif.

Using photo editors to make your photo interesting

January 11th, 2010

mushrooms forest woodsUsing the right photo editors to make my photo interesting. Lifting the saturation so it gets the right amount of deep. Try not to let the gauziness of the mushrooms not escape still lifting the environment.

Photo editing will be the thing as you edit your picture using available tools. The great master spent alot of time in their darkroom and using digital camera you will also spend alot of time in your darkroom. Learn your tools and lift your picture as high as you need. Let it become your brush.

Making your photo by using third rule

January 9th, 2010

tree third rule photoThinking about the third rule making your photo. Will make you handicapped because there is a fifth rule making pictures. Let the photo come to place by being creative not following rules learn them then break them making them second nature to you, but don’t be handicapped by using them. Let them be your guideline not something you have to follow.

Follow your own creations and let the eye of the viewer always taking on a ride. Try to surprise the viewer let him/her have a new story and something new to explore all the time. Let him understand you always have more to give and it is he who is the explorer.

Use a long shuttertime and high aperture in your photo

January 5th, 2010

aperture long exposureTo get a really sharp photo you need high aperture and a long exposure. Even though its vary a little depending on the lens. This photo is taken at a construction of a mighty tunnel. Therefore i am able to use really long exposure to get a really crisp and sharp picture. The lines of the composition is visible in the tubes transporting gas. We get a ride of the eye. This is important for a good photo.
