Try to use layers when composing your photo

May 12th, 2010

flowermacro Try to think in different layers when you are composing your photo. Here i turned the dark fussy dark leaf into foreground to create a layer. Then lifting the sharpness and brightness to the motif and letting the background be again fuzzy.

You will create layers which the viewer find pleasant and worth a round tour. You are creating a small world of your own.

Sometimes a mistake do a really good photo

May 7th, 2010

catshadowSometimes when you take photo you do some mistake. On this picture i forgot to reset the shutter times, so they still was a long exposures. As with this picture such mistakes can start a chain of reactions and you are start taking more picture or stumble over pearls you are not even aware you have taken.

So let the photos float over to your computer before you start erase. Your memory card also are getting better if you don´t erase pictures. The LCD will never do the picture justice so its easy to be fooled by that. Stay cool and don’t erase until you actually seen the photo.

Filling the frame to get a better photo

April 30th, 2010

passion flowerIt is sane advice to try to fill the frame so you don´t have to crop the photo later. You will loose too much information so you really have to train to filling the frame with the actual motif.

Also try to learn to selective sharpen so the blurry background stays out of focus. If you sharpen that you will get nasty effects of sharpen noise. If you really need some more blurryness why not try gaussian blur with Gimp or Photoshop.

Remember even though it is probably trickier and harder to learn Gimp saves you alot of money even though now CS5 have produced a student licence where you are allowed to do some professional work. Open Source have made it possible to create almost the same result. I believe there is many pirate copies out.
