How do get your free pictures on the blog?

March 3rd, 2010

You can always use the Creative Commons search to find images that you may use. I’ve also a page where you can find more pictures for free even some public domain. You may not actually use the images you find through Google’s image search anyway. They are Copyrighted.

You will of course also get the up in a neat way to your blog. I sometimes use captions to my photos and it’s not as difficult as you think. When using images from Flickr that’s what so you should link back to the photographer when the image is required “By”. Then it’s good that you know how to make a picture text. When you use images on Flickr, use the “small” size and the link to the image on Flickr and photographer.

<div Style=”float:left;margin:5px;”><a href=”Länk till Flickr-filen”><img src=’Länk till bildfilen’ alt=’beskrivning av bilden’ /></a><div style=”margin-bottom: 3px” align=”left”><span style=”font-size: 40%; margin-top: 0px”>Foto: <a href=”Länk till Flickrfotografen”>wstryder</a></span></div></div>

You can just copy the code and add the image links you’ve found, but do not forget to link to the flickr photographer or what the license tell you. If the picture demand that you are “noncommersial” be sure you fit the license.

Easy Photo Blog – show your photos on internet

January 28th, 2010

Create your own photo blog. How do I do if I want to show off my beautiful pictures and photos on the web? Sure it works well with Flickr which I tell about the past. I might get some more opportunities and perhaps mix more with text. When is a photo blog is a good alternative. I looked around a little to find a good and simple alternative. You can paste your things in. You can also use Aminus3 as an alternative and you can find my aminus3 here.

What I came up with is that most photo blogs are either full of advertising or very limited. I tested some solutions and found that the combination of Blogger, with Ipernity is probably the best solution for several reasons. Blogger because it is easy for a novice to handle and make the design as you want it. In addition, you get the blogger a chance to upload 1000 images. You can build a simple photo blog solely with blogger. Why add Ipernity? First, you’ll get 1 Gigabyte of space for your images and also makes it easy to create slideshows that you can then easily paste into a blog entry. You will be using Picasaweb if you use Blogger. Be sure to read the service TOS to see if suits you.

1. Create Blogger account and select Minima Black as template. I like to use black or gray background to highlight the images.

2nd When you are ready to go into the settings / publishing, and set the Show at the 1 post on the main page. You can also set the correct time zone and language.

blogger photo3rd Now it’s just to “create mail” where you press the image icon and then you get up a menu where you can choose to either upload an image or specify a URL where you have your image. blogger2 photoBegin by uploading an image from your hard drive. Press Browse and find your way on the hard disk where you saved your image. Select Large and Left and then press publish. It is automatically generated code into your post and you should not write any text, so you only need to choose a title or publish without a title.

4th In order to avoid the ugly part about the photo so you go into the code and change a little. How should it be < img style = "float: left; border: 0; margin: 0 10px 10px ... You see, I've added the border: 0; which indicates that I do not want to show any frame.

5th I may Template further change the look of your blog. I can add a link list by clicking on Add Page Element and select the Link list. I advise to test around a little here because it is easy to change the appearance so that you get it as you want it. Within certain limits. My Photo Blog became like this. How was yours?

6th The next step is not necessary and can of course be exchanged with other sites where you can outsource your photos. just remember to read the Terms of Service. The benefits of Ipernity is that it is easy to both get the URL for the pictures that you can easily suit on the blog.

7th Once you have uploaded your image to Ipernity so you can simply copy the URL link and paste it into the URL address instead of Blogger to upload images from your hard drive. If you create a slide show in Ipernity so please copy and paste only the code you get from Ipernity to post and publish. You can always make albums and paste the code of the slideshow.

Again, I would say that you should read the Terms of service of service so that you do not lose the rights to your own photos. Many service are using their service to get hold of your content. A little ugly, I think even if there is more to protect itself so that the service is legal to work without having to worry about lawsuits.

Making a photo blog for wide pictures with Blogger and Flickr

February 12th, 2009

photo blogYou can create a photo blog with large images using Blogger if you make the template so that it allows greater width. The reason for the article on the photo blog with broad layout is an email from a reader on my Swedish site Bild och foto:

“Thanks for a great page that is very useful. Many hours are spent here … I want to create my own photoblog, but I have looked around at others blogs and I have some requirements …. I want to write a short text and display images. I have looked at the service that Blogger provide and tried a little but I cannot upload images that are 800 pixels wide. Do you know if there is any guide to wordpress for my English skills are not very good ..
Grateful for answers. ”

I assume that you know how to create a photoblog at Blogger. You must edit the template a little so that you can fit in your large images. I use the simplest template ‘Minima’ and then I adjust the colors so that images are highlighted. I like a relatively neutral dark gray others might want to have white or black. You can see at my photoblog what colour i like.

edit templateThe next step will be to edit the template itself. You go into the “Layout” page and select “Edit HTML”. Scroll down until you find “# outer-wrapper” and adjust it so that the width is 1024 pixels. It should now say “width: 1024px;”. Then adjust the “# main-wrapper” to “width: 810px;” and “# sidebar-wrapper” to “width: 180px;”. Do not forget to finish off by saving the template or you will lose your new settings. Now, your large images will fit on the blog.

Now we come to the next step and that is that you should be using Flickr to easily store and even paste images in blogger. You certainly can use Photobucket or even Bloggers own image hosting. If you use Bloggers inbuild service your pictures will end up att Picasaweb on your Google-account. Please remember to read the Terms of service so you know what rights you have on the chosen hosting service. Flickr also comes with the ability to embed slideshows and that is easily done in Blogger.

If you don’t know how Flickr works you can take a peek at Webware’s article about Flickr for beginners. I usually scale my images so that they have their largest side no greater than 800 pixels. I do it for two reasons: firstly, the pictures load more quickly in the browser, but also it is a protection so people or companies steal your images. If the want to use the high resolution image, they must contact me. Do not forget to sharpen the image after you’ve changed the size. You always lose sharpness when you downsize.

Now, when you should make your posts on your new photo blog with the broad template so you simply go to the Flickr image that you want to post on the blog. You select the “All Sizes” and select the 800px size that you have uploaded. Below the picture is a box where you just select the code and then you paste it into your blog post. Publish and then your ready and can blog wildly on your new wide photo blog.

If you want to have just one picture on the front like me. Go to “Settings” where you will find under “Formatting”. Here you can edit the number of posts on the front page.
