Why should i buy a system-,compact or a microfourthird camera

July 9th, 2010

gorillapod e-pl1 olympusIn any forum a common question is asked. Which camera is the best? Just now there is still debating if a DSLR, compact or microfourthirds is the best for just this person. All depends what you want to do with your camera. I still learn and use the camera on my telephone to learn composition. We have the forum where you can learn more or find inspiration.

It is much easier to bring a compact camera than a DSLR, but if you want to learn more about photo and settings a micro4/3 is for you. As you notice i don´t discuss brand. If you go with the large brands any brand is good to go and will do much to you. The camera is just a tool to take pictures. Nothing more nothing less. Leave people starting discussing.

If you are into editing photos DSLR take much better picture and maybe you are even into Rawfiles. If you are more then interesting to learn about photo and photoediting. Raw-files is your second nature. You love to dive into editing and learn more. DSLR are for you.

If you simply want to take pictures and sort them maybe do them smaller or larger. Compact camera will do this for you and save the result as jpg. There are alot of them point and shoot that have good result. The experience i have tell me Olympus and Panasonic is much more into the jpg conversion and do a better job than Canon and Nikon, which do much better in the Raw-files area. There are some compacts that have a good way with settings but the are often limit by the lens and sensor.

I am both interested in photo my family and learning about photography then microfourthirds are perfect. The sensor that pick up light are slightly larger and you are able to take great pictures and photo the family. It will be a little slower than the DSLR so don´t expect the rate of shooting DSLR copes with. It will be a perfect street- and family camera. You are probably being able to take some movies too.

Today i took my micro4/3 for a spin and was out with its gorillapod shooting macro. I think it went rather well even though there was some problem.

Why are your compact camera doing blurry photo?

June 9th, 2010

One reason you will get blurry picture is that the camera is not made for the situation. It doesn’t get enough light so you must provide it somehow with better light. Cellphones is getting better cameras but the light must be good if you are going to take great photos.

Indoors the light is low so you need a camera that can take in more light. You need the right tool for the job. You are not going to use a hammer if you are going to saw of a branch. It is not a good tool. Iphone has recently come with a new tool understand that the camera in it will have it’s limits.

Cheap to highlight your photo with LED lights

June 7th, 2010

led lamp light photoI passed the hardware store and bought a cheap LED flashlight only 29 SEK. I will definitely buy more LEDs as they are effective both in strength and power. It does not cost so much to play with light. I will play some of my new torch, and it slips easily into your pocket.

A well-stocked shop also has a working light LEDs that are not all too expensive. It is important to note, however, the white balance. It is so cheap just buy one or two.

Use your iPhone when you shoot that gray card

May 11th, 2010

Innovative testing to use the iPhone as a gray card when shooting. The Sound and photography that have been tested to create a gray card in photoshop, then transfer it to an iPhone . Do not run and buy an iPhone because it is cheaper with a standard gray card, but you have one so it’s a variation you have in this case with you anywhere. One less thing to carry around.

You could also make you a simple white balance filters of a tray from Ikea or something similiar.

(Do mind this is an old recording.)

Find out your lens ’sweet spot’

May 7th, 2010

photo lens equipment sweet spotLenses giving a various sharp image of the surface depends on several things. All lenses have also areas where they are most sharply over the entire image area so-called “sweet spots”. It is important to know their equipment and use it as efficiently as possible. You can easily find out which area your particular lens gives the best pictures.

It is easiest if your lens is a fixed lens. Then, simply find the aperture settings that give those really sharp images. It allows you to easily search your way through if you set the camera to “Aperture” mode or “Av” as it tends to be on camera. Then choose a strictly contrast rich motif and take pictures with different aperture positions. You can then easily see which aperture that give the best pictures. Experiment with different images and get to know your equipment properly.

You can also find out where your lens is at its best through hand -SLR-gear which they have conducted tests of different lenses. If you are lucky you will find that your particular lens has been tested. I recommend strongly that the course you buy a fixed 50mm normal lens that has a brightness at 1.8 which is the smallest aperture the lens can handle. I have the Canon and the 50mm: 1.8 II has been tested and you can clearly see that the 8.1 aperture mode so do not look so good blurindex. However, the lens is smooth and well blurindex a wide aperture range from 2.8 and upwards. Here you will get sharp images over the entire surface.

A zoom lens is much trickier to find sweet spots in practice. You must of course try different shutter speeds and see how great the focal length to act against different aperture. Is it slower shutter speeds so you can find the best sharpness in the upper segment. I have noticed that my Sigma APO 70-300:4,5-5,6 has the best sharpness at shutter speeds around 180-250mm aperture and then with the 8 and up.

Now to catch the best photos you should always keep within the best area. Photography is an art form, but we need to learn your equipment. That is what is your paintbrush and your colors. You can not create good images if you do not get to know the conditions.

Format your memory card every time

to keep it away from the dogs.

It is a common mistake that you do not format the memory card after each download. Two reasons why you should reformat your memory card instead of deleting all the images. It’s much faster to reformat the card than to delete all images. In addition, you will get a fresh structure on your memory card when you format it. If you delete the pictures so it is more likely that you experience a crash and memory card becomes corrupted, ie you might get pictures that you can not download.

To save your cards to last longer so it is also better not to delete images at all in the camera itself. You will get less over-writing on your card. It can save a part of life. Of course so do I delete pictures sometimes simply because it is easier when you then download.

However, it is important that you regularly format your memory card. I think you as well can format your memory card each time.

Ball head to tripod should be quite large for best photo

April 16th, 2010

manfrotto head ballA ball head should be ample to secure properly if you have a little larger lens. I got only a quite small head for my Manfrotto tripod a Manfrotto 484RC2 and I felt quickly that it was not locked properly. When I used my 70-300 mm Sigma APO it was hard to get it to attach properly.

Now I’ve got myself a Manfrotto 488RC2 , which I think is very flexible and pays better because the ball is larger. When you buy the ball joint, I recommend that you make sure to test it properly and the ball is slightly larger model. Know that the size of your lens that you intend to use will matter.

(i am not sponsored from manfrotto only use their products.)

My suggestion is to either if you are unsure leave it on clean or read everything you can about how you should do before getting started. Be careful.

Photo tips for people who just bought digital SLR

March 19th, 2010

Old article where Thomas Hawk offers tips on good things to think about for those who have purchased a digital SLR on Mahalo Daily (Mahalo is a new search engine). Thomas Hawk is also involved in Zooomr. Zooomr is a competitor to Flickr, where you also have the ability to sell your images. There is also much more interactive and you can chat with others who have posted images of a simpler way. Just like Ipernity that i use, but they are too much only into photos.
